A great success for our Mozart Society! On March 24, 2018, the memorial plaque for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was unveiled in front of Mannheim Palace. Mozart visited Mannheim a total of four times during his life. His longest and most important stay began in October 1777 and ended in March 1778, 240 years ago. During this time, Mozart not only became acquainted with the renowned "Mannheim School" but also forged many friendships with its musicians and met his future wife. Here he felt understood and loved. Some of his most beautiful concert arias, as well as many sonatas, were composed in Mannheim. His time in Mannheim had a profound influence on Mozart's work.
The bronze plaque, donated by our Mozart Society Kurpfalz e.V., was presented to the public in the presence of our board and members. At the subsequent organ concert, organist Kai Schreiber played works by Mozart in the castle church, where Mozart himself had once played the organ.
The "Mile of Innovations" commemorates and celebrates these significant achievements. With this, we also aim to encourage identification with the history of our region and its economic, technological, and cultural diversity.
